Pogacar tops pre-qualifying at Magenta Shores

The next two weeks will see the Ladies European Tour and WPGA Tour of Australasia co-sanction the Women’s NSW Open and Australian Women’s Classic – Bonville, with the final field of the first Golf NSW event decided today.

With places on offer at both events, 27 players teed it up at Women’s NSW Open host venue Magenta Shores Country Club on Monday in pre-qualifying, with Slovenia’s Katja Pogacar coming out on top at one-over.

Already in the field this week by virtue of her maiden professional win at the Women's NSW Open Regional Qualifier held at Narrabri last week, Pogacar guaranteed her spot for Bonville with her round of 73.

Meanwhile Japan’s Suzuka Yamaguchi and the Gold Coast’s Amy Walsh secured their places at Magenta with matching rounds of 74 on Monday at the Ross Watson designed layout on the New South Wales Central Coast.

Like Pogacar, Sarapon Chamchoi was already in the Women’s NSW Open field, but teed it up in the pre-qualifier to attempt to gain a fortnight of high level tournament play. The Thai missing out on a play-off with Walsh and Yamaguchi by two shots, but later learning she had been awarded an invite alongside Walsh and Yamaguchi to tee it up at the Terry Watson-Ted Stirling designed Bonville Golf Resort.

The four will join the likes of past champion Meghan Maclaren, World No.76 Anne Van Dam, The Athena winner Kelsey Bennett and a field mixed with international talent and rising Australian stars taking on the links-style challenge of Magenta Shores.

Played over 54-holes starting Friday, Kiwi Momoka Kobori, sister of three-time Webex Players Series winner Kazuma, will defend her title that she won at Foster Tuncurry Golf Club in 2023.
