Inside the Ropes with Becky Harding

Senior Director at IMG, Shaping the Fan‑First Future of Women’s Professional Golf

Inside the ropes with Becky Harding, the atmosphere shifts. The noise of a tournament softens just enough for you to notice the precision, instinct, and quiet authority of a woman who has spent two decades shaping some of the biggest moments in women’s golf. Though she now directs flagship LPGA events across Asia, her path into the game wasn’t calculated. “I always say I came out and someone threw a ball and I caught it,” she laughs. The game wasn’t a choice; it was a language she grew up speaking. An internship with IMG in Malaysia set everything in motion, and what began as an opportunity quickly became a calling. “I fell in love with it, and here we are 20 years later.”

Her career has been built across Asia’s sports landscape, from early production roles to event management at Red Bull Malaysia, where she worked on high‑pressure global activations like Formula 1, MotoGP, and the Red Bull Air Race. Those years sharpened her crisis‑management instincts and shaped the calm, grounded presence she carries today. At IMG, she rose through senior roles in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, eventually becoming Senior Director overseeing the Honda LPGA Thailand, the HSBC Women’s World Championship, and a portfolio of major events across the region. It’s a trajectory that reflects both her operational discipline and her willingness to push boundaries, traits that match her cool, slightly nonconformist style that stands out in a corporate‑sports environment.

Ask her what excites her most about the job, and she doesn’t hesitate. “Everything,” she says, before expanding with the clarity of someone who has lived every layer of event production. Bringing a tournament to life, physically, visually, emotionally - is what fuels her. The satisfaction comes from the people who experience it: the players who feel valued, the fans who feel immersed, the sponsors who feel proud to be part of something polished and meaningful. “When they tell you how happy they are with the experience, that’s super exciting.”

There’s also a paradox she embraces: the harder the challenge, the greater the reward. High stress is part of the job, but she doesn’t shy away from it. “The more challenging it is, the more satisfying it becomes,” she says. It’s a mindset that explains why she thrives in an environment where no two days look the same and where the stakes are always high.

Planning, for Becky, is not a season; it’s a cycle. While spectators see a single week of world‑class golf, she and her team are already thinking about the next edition before the current one has even finished. Walking the course, reviewing logistics, imagining improvements, it all happens in real time. “We start talking about next year all year round,” she says. It’s a rhythm that demands stamina, creativity, and an ability to see both the big picture and the smallest details simultaneously.

This year, one of the biggest evolutions is a new elevated fan deck, an idea born from a desire to give loyal supporters something special. “We wanted to elevate the opportunity for them to have that experience,” she explains. The deck offers premium views, private areas, merchandise, food, and a glass of champagne—a super‑fan ticket designed to bring spectators closer to the action in a way that feels both exclusive and welcoming. It’s a reminder that modern golf tournaments aren’t just competitions; they’re curated experiences.

Her commitment to fan‑centric innovation isn’t new. Across her career, she has helped develop fan villages, interactive zones, and hospitality concepts that bring spectators closer to the sport. The dedicated champagne deck introduced this year is a continuation of that philosophy, a relaxed, social space where fans can enjoy a celebratory moment while watching the world's best compete. “It’s such a nice deck experience,” she says. “We’re hoping it keeps a lot of people happy and full of champagne.” It’s a small detail in the grand scheme of a tournament, but it reflects her instinct for creating moments that feel memorable.

Of course, even the most meticulously planned event can be thrown off course by the one force no one can control: the weather. Becky recalls a year when torrential rain hit overnight, washing out parts of the course. “You can control almost everything, except the weather,” she says. Heat, rain, and wind each brings its own complications, from water shortages to suspended play. These moments test the resilience of the team, and Becky is quick to credit the people around her. “You’ve got to have an amazing team to make sure it looks like everything’s under control,” she says. The calm fans see is the product of countless decisions made behind the scenes.

For someone who spends much of the year traveling from tournament to tournament, Becky has learned the value of small comforts. When asked about her travel essentials, she smiles. “I have this beautiful scarf. I can’t travel without it. It’s almost become like a little blanky. It gives me a lot of comfort.” It’s a simple detail, but it reveals the human side of a woman whose work often requires superhuman composure.

What stands out most is the blend of passion and precision she brings to her role. Becky is part strategist, part conductor, part problem‑solver and part storyteller: crafting experiences that elevate women’s golf and deepen its connection with fans. Becky’s influence is everywhere: in the atmosphere, the innovation, the seamlessness of an event that feels effortless because she and her team have absorbed every challenge long before anyone else notices.

Her work shapes not just tournaments, but the way the sport is experienced, celebrated, and remembered. And as women’s golf continues to grow, leaders like Becky are quietly, confidently building its future from the inside out.
