Captains Ride into Town for 2026 European Solheim Cup ‘Year to Go’ Celebrations

The road to one of the biggest events in women’s sports has officially started as the 2026 Solheim Cup celebrated its Year to Go milestone in the Netherlands, with tickets now on sale.

European Captain Anna Nordqvist and Vice-Captain Caroline Hedwall joined USA Captain Angela Stanford and Assistant Captain Paula Creamer for a day of celebrations, bringing golf and cycling together in true Dutch style. The four golfing stars swapped fairways for bike lanes, pedaling alongside Dutch professional cyclists Fem van Empel and Lieke Nooijen of Team Visma / Lease a Bike, plus staff from the NGF, LET, LPGA, and IMG.

To mark the occasion, the group met at Den Bosch Station, tracing the same scenic cycle route that thousands of fans will follow when they travel to Bernardus Golf, 7–13 September 2026, for the 20th edition of the Solheim Cup, and its first staging in the Netherlands.

The ride showcased the event’s bold commitment to sustainability. The 2026 Solheim Cup aims to set a new benchmark for eco-friendly sporting events, replacing general on-site parking with low-emission travel options, integrated ticketing, and last-mile solutions like the bike route experienced today. Other initiatives include renewable energy use, waste reduction, circular material sourcing, local catering, water-smart operations, and active nature restoration.

Sustainability on golf courses is a key priority for the NGF. Leading the way internationally, of the 314 GEO-certified courses worldwide, as many as 104 are located in the Netherlands with Bernardus Golf recognised as one of the most sustainable golf clubs in Europe.

Today also saw general tickets go on sale. From grounds passes providing general access, to hospitality including the ‘Tap Inn at the 15^th Green’ tipped to be the most exciting spot on the course, there are a range of options available to get fans close to the action. Nordqvist, along with Stanford and the Vice Captains, then hosted a lively Q&A with young aspiring Dutch golfers, with the European star remarking, 

“I am delighted to be here alongside Caroline, Angela and Paula to mark a year to go until our teams meet here at Bernardus Golf. With this warm welcome we can really feel the wonderful community interest and support for the 2026 Solheim Cup, as well as enjoying the opportunity to once again marvel at the amazing facilities here on site at Bernardus and the world class course. I think the buildup to the 2026 match is going to go by really fast, but I am taking a moment to enjoy this very special day in this beautiful venue and to look forward to what will undoubtably be the proudest week of my life next September.”

Stanford, who has played in six Solheim Cups and on the winning side three times, added, 

“I played the course recently, and Paula and I really feel that Bernardus will be a fantastic stage to showcase the 2026 Solheim Cup and our incredible teams. The course layout and condition were both stellar, and I plan to play it again over the next two days to gather as much intel as I can. The team here is building a great program for the fans – the biking kick-off was a blast! I can’t wait to be back in 12 months with our team, giving the Dutch crowds a great show.”
