Both Golf NSW and Professional Golfers Association of Australia (PGA) have shown support of Cancer Council’s Improve your long game, a free program where by joining, golf clubs are part of a network of over 200 clubs across NSW showing commitment to sun safety to help keep players enjoying the game for longer.
Cancer Council NSW Skin Cancer Prevention Programs Lead, Ally Hamer said that golf clubs are a key part of local communities and play an important role in supporting their members and guests’ health and wellbeing. “We are delighted to be working with PGA and Golf NSW to promote a sun safe culture in the golf sector, and through this leadership we are helping to normalize sun safe habits amongst golfers.”
Golf NSW is an important influencing governing body for golf clubs and recognises the important role they play in protecting members, “we are committed to actively promoting the importance of sun safety and encouraging clubs to be part of this free program, so they can ensure their members enjoy the game safely.” said Graeme Phillipson, Golf NSW COO on their support of the program.
Earlier this year, PGA facilitated a sun safety webinar for its members which was hosted by Cancer Council NSW, showing the importance of sun safety for Golf Pros and how they have an opportunity to role model these behaviours, “We know our PGA professionals spend a lot of time in the sun, so it’s important to lead by example when it comes to skin cancer prevention. By promoting sun safety, we can not only protect our PGA Professionals but encourage the entire golfing community to do the same.” said David Barker, Senior Manager of Membership Services at PGA.
Players and staff at participating Improve your long game clubs can expect to see updated program collateral with combined branding and communication on the importance of sun safety from PGA and Golf NSW through networks and communications channels.
