200 Junior Golfing Girls Score Entry to the Australian Golf Foundation's Scholarship Program
At least 200 girls will be supported to progress their golf across 40 MyGolf centres thanks to the Australian Golf Foundation (AGF) Junior Girls Scholarship program. The program has come to fruition thanks to the foresight and generosity of Bonnie Boezeman AO, Director of the Australian Golf Foundation, who originally established the program at Killara Golf Club, NSW.

“The aim of this program is to encourage girls to develop their golfing skills at a young age as well as retain girls who graduate from MyGolf” said Bonnie Boezeman. “Many girls tend to drop out of sports when they hit their teenage years and we are attempting to buck this trend by providing an alignment to a club and a solid 24-week PGA Pro training program,” said Boezeman.

Each centre will offer at least five scholarships in 2021 to girls aged 10-16 that will be used to help girls:

  • Advance their skills through coaching
  • Obtain a handicap
  • Play in club competitions
  • Form lifelong golfing friendships with other girls and members

“It is a great opportunity to improve my golf, have some fun, and make some long-lasting friendships.” said Killara Golf Club inductee, Sophia Grehan, aged 11 years.

Another inductee, 10-year-old Kate Mesrop, said: “I applied for the scholarship because I wanted to become a better golfer and represent the club. But since I was accepted to the program and understood the meaning behind it, I now feel very privileged to be surrounded by talented young female golfers. I feel very lucky that I get a chance to learn, grow and be mentored by the senior ladies group. I am so excited about the experience ahead.”

In addition to the original announcement that saw 30 centres funded, the NSW Golf Foundation and Jack Newton Junior Golf came on board to fund an additional 10 centres in NSW. The Australian Golf Foundation is the national foundation for golf in Australia. The AGF supports Golf Australia’s vision to grow golf by investing in targeted initiatives to inspire all Australians to enjoy and play the game.
